Genuinely cheap and genuinely simple. The privacy marketing around it is oversold.

Wyoming charges $100 to file Articles of Organization and a $60 minimum annual report fee, calculated on assets located in the state, so most out of state owners pay the minimum.

There is no state income tax on individuals or companies, and the state does not list member names in its public filings. That combination is why so many formation services push Wyoming hard.

Ranges assume a registered agent service at $100 to $300 a year where one is used, and a formation service package of $0 to $300 on top of state fees. Montana is cheaper still to open at $35, and Massachusetts is the most expensive state we track at $500 to file and $500 a year to renew.

The privacy claim, honestly

Wyoming does keep member names off the public filing, and that stops casual searches. It does not hide you from the Internal Revenue Service, from a court order, from a bank running its own checks, or from the federal beneficial ownership reporting rules. Anyone selling Wyoming as anonymity is selling a stronger product than the state provides.

The out of state trap

If you live and work in another state, a Wyoming LLC usually has to register there as a foreign LLC anyway. You then pay Wyoming and your home state, file twice, and have gained a bill rather than a saving. Wyoming works best for people with a real connection to Wyoming, or for holding assets rather than running an operating business elsewhere.
